Ready for Business!

For those of you raptly following my day-to-day activities, you know that I have been preparing to teach piano lessons. After sending out "official" notice in June (an email to everyone I know) that I would begin teaching again this August, it didn't take long to start signing up students, and now I have reached my goal of 12 students! While we were out of town last week, Hubs lovingly built the new furniture I'd ordered and rearranged various items around the house to get it piano-ready. So here's what it looks like, ready for my first students on August 15:

This is the dining room, which I am still convinced will one day house a dining table and a nice buffet. As long as we've been in this house (coming up on two years!) the dining room has served as a miscellaneous junk room; not out of control but definitely unattractive... so this is a major improvement. The cabinet on the left opens to reveal the rest of that computer and a slide-out keyboard! Isn't that slick? And when it's not in use it's disguised as a nice piece of non-office-looking furniture. The piano students will sit here to use this very cute music theory & ear training software I got. On the right is the desk that has been used in our master bedroom for the past year or so a TV stand. Now it will be used as a desk & "listening station" (note the CD player). The students will learn about a different composer each month and this is the spot they'll sit for that exercise.

This is the living room, and I don't know why the color turned out so differently on these two pictures: the walls are the same color in real life and the rooms are right by each other with the front door between them. So here on the right is the piano, obviously, and there's my "teacher's chair" to the left of it. On the left of the picture is the keyboard we got for Christmas in like 1988 or so, and it's still kickin'! We've passed this around the family for the past several years; that was a great purchase Mom & Dad! For students who have completed their composer unit for the month, they can sit at this keyboard and work on technique or just have extra practice time.

I have a few more things to do to prepare for this undertaking, but nothing as picture-worthy as the new furniture & set-up. Looks like fun doesn't it? By the way, I have bought 3 pairs of headphones for the computer, cd player, and keyboard. And, the new furniture all came from Target.com. And, it's completely different from the furniture I'd originally selected, in case you're keeping track!

Having just been at your house and seen it in person, I will say that it looks just wonderful... and even better in real life. I've never seen your dining room looking so spiffy. I think your fun method for teaching (or Buffy's) is so wonderful, and I hope to sign up my kids in a couple of years.

That looks GREAT. The furniture is much better looking than I imagined. I can't wait to come to your student's recital!

Nice going Sara, I wish we lived closer so you could teach my kids someday. Oh well, I'll have to convince Nate's mom to do it. It looks awesome, though, I'm so excited for you!
