Seattle/Vancouver Trip Day 1

Aaron & I took a nice little trip together in late October. Sorry it has taken me forever to get around to blogging about it! We don't take trips together very often with just the two of us, but we always have a fantastic time together. We're really glad we took this trip.

We started out by flying to Seattle on Saturday, Oct. 22nd. With a layover in Salt Lake, it took several hours to get up there and it was nearly dark by the time we got checked in to our hotel. We brought Zoe's & Lucy's "Flat Stanleys" along for the ride (a 2nd grade project - Stanley has to go on a trip or visit relatives that live far away, sometime during the school year), and I had a lot of fun taking their pictures in different situations during the trip. Here's Lucy's Flat Stanley enjoying a snack on the flight up to Seattle. I took about a million pictures of the Space Needle, both at day and night. Definitely overkill but it is a pretty cool-looking structure. We had a dinner reservation at the Space Needle for 7:45pm, which ended up being just perfect; we had time get our rental car, check in to our hotel, drive to downtown Seattle, and sight-see for a few minutes before our reservation.

The dinner menu only has fancy stuff on it; I was so impressed with our plates that I had to take pictures. I ordered the Ahi tuna which was amazing:
and I don't remember what Aaron ordered but he liked it too!

It was very cold and windy, with some rain too, at the top of the Space Needle. So, we didn't spend too much time out on the outdoor deck. There was a very nice indoor observation area that had lots of interactive displays about Seattle, and the Space Needle. We spent probably half an hour in there after dinner before we went back down the long elevator.

Since our Space Needle valet was good for another hour or so, we decided to walk around downtown. It was enjoyable; nice and interesting. Had it been daytime there would've been several museums and things to explore. After that we drove down to the waterfront area, which we'd heard was interesting. Well, not much was going on there at 10pm on a Saturday night except for a few nicely-dressed folks that appeared to be on their way home from the symphony or opera. From what we'd heard, during the day the waterfront area is alive with shops and traders and fishmongers... but it was very quiet at night! So, we just walked around for a while and then headed back to our hotel around 11pm.

So... basically all we did that first night in Seattle was the Space Needle, but that was pretty exciting. The next day we headed north towards British Columbia... stay tuned!
