This is not typical behavior for me; I leave all things yardwork to Hubs, and he does a terrific job of mowing, trimming, planting, overseeding, weed-killing, etc. Occasionally I'll plant flowers in the front beds but that's about the extent of my involvement.
This little tree is for the sake of my dog, Juno. She thoroughly destroyed the previous young palm tree in this spot, and in fact at the ripe old age of 15 months she still does a fair amount of chewing/destroying. Fortunately we don't have too many things in the yard for her to destroy, but she still manages to occasionally find things we would never had thought she'd go after, and go after them. The good news is that most of her targets are inexpensive to replace, it's just a matter of inconvenience and annoyance. But Hubs is fed up with it.
I'm hoping that by disposing of the destroyed tree stump and planting this new one, AND making very carefully sure that Juno doesn't destroy it, I will help Juno to get back into Hubs' good graces. My dog-owner friends, any tips on getting your dog to stop destroying your new trees? I sprinkled cayenne-pepper-water all over and around it, and other than that I'm just watching her like a hawk. So far she has only sniffed it, but the day is still young.
In other news, last night we had a pre-roasted chicken from the grocery store for dinner (along with french bread and sauteed sugar snap peas). Today I am boiling the heck out of the rest of the chicken (a little meat, and all the bones & skin) to make this soup, which as you may recall, my children think is second only to Disneyland in its awesomeness. Noah will be so thrilled when he gets home from school and asks me what's for dinner! I will probably make up a batch of these rolls to go with it; it's been a couple of months since I've made them. I think I'll grind some wheat & make them half-wheat/half-white flour so they're more healthy. It smells mighty tasty over here! One good thing about not teaching piano on Wednesdays is that I am able to spend more time making a delicious dinner.
What are you doing today? And more importantly, what are you having for dinner?

i feel your pain. our dog has completely destroyed our backyard. it's our own fault, i guess. he likes to uproot complete plants. and then he rips them up so they can't be replanted. i've reached my limit. does juno need a male companion??
well, it is looking like Spaghetti Cake as my son likes to call it!
Great tree - hope it survives!
That IS a cute tree! Oh, and I make your dinner rolls all the time now. Nate has me make them every Sunday, and then we eat them throughout the week...YUM!
