I feel like Lucy has received an unfair majority of posts lately, but what can be done. She's so funny.
The kids know not to surf the internet unsupervised. There are a few sites they are allowed to visit, and we have a decent web-protection program installed to help filter out unsavory images, videos, etc. I had unwittingly disabled the web-protection last week, and one day when Aaron & I were both gone, the older kids found Lucy doing a little surfing. They stopped her, and later I went through the internet history to see what she'd been looking for... here's a look into the thoughts of my youngest daughter:
"erings.com" To look for earrings, of course (though none of the girls have pierced ears around here).
"dancemacktiping" One of the kids' favorite online games is "Dance Mat Typing." Lucy obviously didn't know how to spell it.
"frib.com" She was looking for the kids' game website, Friv.
And finally, she did a Google search for "baby deer" and she ended up watching this video on You Tube.
Fortunately, she didn't come across anything unsavory and we turned the web-protection program right back on. But I thought that Lucy's web-surfing pursuits were pretty cute, while they lasted.

Oh phew! I am SO nervous that I don't ever let my kids on the computer at all. Some crazy stuff could have come up with her random searches!!
I was looking for some preschool things the other day and ran into some pretty nasty porn. I was so mad that I purchased a web protection thing right then. Which one do you guys have?
I've been needing to get web protection program, too. Which one did you buy, Leigh? We've been lucky so far with the "you can't use the internet unless I'm around" approach, but they are getting older and need to use it more and more for homework! I'd love suggestions for something inexpensive, but effective!
We used to have one called NetNanny. I really liked it... it was very easy to customize. But it made the computer run so slowly. There was an annual fee... maybe like $40 or $50. Now we have nothing, and the kids are never allowed on the computer. I will have to look into K-9.
I hope they are searching "baby deer" when they are 16. We use K9. Its free and does a pretty good job.
Oh Sara, that is hilarious!!! Fortunately for us, our kids don't know how to use my computer. Kylee tries and screws up the desktop and the webpage I have open but that's about as far as my kids get to the internet. Not looking forward to the day they do start getting on.
Just downloaded k9...It looks great! Thanks for the info. I've been meaning to do this for awhile and have just been lucky the kids didn't come across something first!
It works great...already blocked google image search when they wanted to change our screensaver. They were mad, but I wasn't :)
