Ski!

Today we took the kids for their second-ever day of skiing. You may recall last year, when Aaron & I taught them ourselves during a day at Snowbowl. We repeated this today, but while last year's focus was getting the kids to stand up on their skis, not fall down too much, and be able to slow down & stop (and of course have fun), this year we worked more on technique and we did lots of big, slow turns back and forth down the hill.

The kids each improved a LOT with their skiing technique today; the first couple of runs were spent trying to get the feel of it again (a few falls & etc), but then we were able to have a good 12 or so more runs without incident... the last 7 or 8 of which were on the green runs (not the bunny hill). Like last year, I packed a lunch that we ate at the car (had a good parking space near the bunny hill), which was so convenient for getting right back to the slopes after our lunch break. It was not crowded at ALL; we never waited in a lift line for more than 2 minutes. That could've been because it was SO warm; the high was in the 50's and we left most of the "extra layers" we'd brought, in the car. So during the afternoon, the snow got more and more slushy with each run and the puddles at the bottom of the hill got bigger... so I'm glad we got a fun ski day in before the snow melts any further!

We went during spring break last year and I was hoping to squeeze in a trip this week or next. Ugh...I am afraid me might be too late? it is a tough call - warm weather makes such a more pleasant skiing experience with the kiddos but the snow isn't great.

Yeah, it's really nice for the kids to not be freezing cold all day. It was definitely not this warm last March; when we went last year it was March 7 and it was snowing while we were there... bundled up in hats & the whole deal. This time we all just wore a long sleeved tee & a jacket. The snow was okay in the morning, when the temp was still 40ish. But by the afternoon it was slushville. Still worth going. Also -- right now they have junior passes for $12 (normally $26).
