I'm in the process of getting a new passport, so yesterday I gave myself the job of taking my own passport photo. What an ordeal! I felt pretty silly, sitting here in my house taking literally 30 pictures of myself before I had one that looked good enough and also followed legal guidelines for passport photos. After taking 20 or so pictures with my old trusty Canon PowerShot, and having lots of problems with lighting, focus, graininess, shadows, etc., I finally switched to Aaron's much nicer SLR and after a brief tutorial phonecall from him I was finally able to get a decent shot. After only a couple of minor adjustments in Photoshop (brightness, contrast, sizing) I had it ready for my passport application. My left eye always squints when I smile, my bangs look crooked here, and I'm not crazy about the double chin but THIS WILL HAVE TO DO, no way am I going to start over with this project!

You should have called me - I would have come taken your picture! And where are you going with your passport?!?
I think it's a great picture! You look pretty and tan!
I think you look great and not just because your passport pict is so much cuter than mine! Mine I just paid a lady, did not look at it, and hope I don't get stopped by customs.
I love the photo and am interested to hear if it was accepted by the passport people. Earlier in the year I had to get mine renewed in a rush (and paid a hefty fine to one of those services to walk it through for me) and I took my own photo using an online tutorial, photoshop, etc. I also used to take passport photos about a decade ago when I worked at Kinkos and am familiar with how stringent the rules are. [FYI, those passport photo cameras have an outline of a head, chin and shoulders in the display so all you have to do is line it up].
Anyway, my photo still got rejected! So I had to settle for a post office photo, where I did not have as much control over how, er... attractive it was, and I had to pay more rush fees. Am I still bitter? Apparently so.
Are you getting the passport card? Those are pretty nifty.
Okay, this was a lame long comment. Good luck!
