Below is Lucy at 4 months, May 2004. Yep, she sucked her thumb for a short time back then... then Zoe began to copy her and still does it.Having reflected a lot lately and being keenly aware of the fact that my kids are growing up too fast, I've decided to make an effort to notice & record more special moments while they are still young. The youngest ones are SO anxious to grow up. Lucy and Zoe were asking me today on the way home from preschool if they are grown-ups yet. I explained that they will be little girls for a loooong time and that's a good thing. They argued, "But Mom, we're BIG girls!" They can't wait to do all the things their older sibs are doing; Kindergarten, reading, piano lessons, etc.
So my moment for this week was on Tuesday. Or Monday, I don't remember which. What I DO remember was that I rocked Lucy to sleep and it was lovely. She is extremely reluctant to nap these days, but does need that occasional extra couple hours of sleep. So on Monday (or Tuesday) I noticed the obvious signs of tiredness: whining, eye-rubbing, and fierce declarations of "I'm not tired!" and after a minor fall or some other cause of minor crying, I offered to rock her and she accepted. Once she saw what I was secretly trying to do (get her to fall asleep) she fought it the best she could, even speaking with her eyes closed, "I'm not tired mom. I don't want to take a nap." and a few minutes later, after I'd quietly instructed the other kids to whisper or leave the room, Lucy said, eyes still closed, "We don't have to whisper, mom. We can talk as loud as we want." 5 more minutes and she was out. I remained in the glider with her for another 15 minutes or so, after which I was able to successfully transfer her to the couch where she slept for another 2 hours. It was quite precious and really took me back to the baby days, long since gone...

Where does the time go? I had forgotten that Lucy was the original thumb sucker. Seems like only last week that putting them down in the same pack 'n play was par for the course!
I have trouble leaving comments sometimes. Finally I get too!
This was a cute post. I often have the same thoughts. We watched home movies recently and it made me realize how OLD my girlies are getting. It also made me realize how I used to video tape EVERYTHING that Brooklyn did! I need to start pulling out the camera more.
