Planno Blessons

I started teaching last week and the first round of piano lessons went great! There were a couple of minor glitches, such as an entire family of 3 siblings not showing up for their first lesson, a few folks showing up early or late, and accidentally sending one girl home with an extra book which has her utterly confused... but after the past 3 months of preparation and anticipation, it all went quite smoothly & uneventfully.

Lucy's the one who calls it planno blessons, and is just dying to have her turn at it. In fact the first day she kept trying to sit on the piano bench next to the student as I taught. That whole first afternoon, my children seemed pretty confused by the whole thing and quite unable to contentedly play elsewhere, but even by the second day it was much better. I don't think it will be long at all before the novelty wears off completely for them and these mysterious Wednesday & Thursday visitors are a normal part of our weekly routine.

Having passed the major hurdle of the first day, I feel so relaxed and happy about it now, which is of course the case with many things that generate much anticipation. It won't be guaranteed smooth sailing from here on out, but this is something I do enjoy doing and it is pretty easy for me to do... and a really super duper way to make a little extra money from home. I already know a lot about playing the piano & music theory, so I don't need to "study up" before teaching, which means I won't need to put in much extra time outside of lesson time. It's great! I think that this was a terrific idea* and I look forward to continuing every week. Oh yeah, and it's rewarding too: today at church, two of my students excitedly told me how much they've been practicing, and one of them came up to me and gave me a hug!

Mad props to Jamie for "planting the seed" ... I knew I wanted to teach again someday, but she's the one who brought it up a few months ago & got the wheels turning! Thanks!

Cute picture. I'm also glad you've started and hope it goes smoothly. Your set-up is quite lovely.
