We're a few days off track

Because THIS happened:

Trying his best to look sick

During his 13th (and last) breathing treatment before we got to go home ~ he's pretending to be Darth Vader

SO excited that he got to have x-rays!

In a nutshell: Noah was home sick on Wednesday with a fever & cough. I didn't think much of it until he started breathing funny; actually not too funny but very fast. The fast breathing and accompanying chest pain went into the night until I took him to the ER at about midnight. After three breathing treatments and a dose of steroids, his oxygen level was still too low and at 3:30am they put him on oxygen and we were told that he would be admitted. I was pretty surprised, assuming we would only be gone from home a few hours and had of course brought nothing but my purse. We ended up staying until late afternoon on Friday, when they decided that his oxygen level was okay and we got to go home. He has two medications to take for a few days, and he'll have a follow-up visit to the pediatrician on Tuesday. Most of the hospital staff we dealt with were sure that Noah must be asthmatic, since it appeared to be an asthma attack. While that is possible, I think it's more likely that this was something virus-related since he started out being sick, and he hasn't ever had any asthma symptoms or episodes before. But, we are now in possession of a rescue inhaler, should his lungs decide to act up again!

Noah was a GREAT patient and thought that everything at the hospital was so fun and exciting! He has not been to any hospital or urgent care since he was born, so it was all new to him. He was a real trooper with all the breathing treatments, he loved having his blood pressure taken, loved having x-rays, loved getting to watch so much TV and movies, and he thought it was just hilarious when I had to wheel the oxygen tank behind him in the ER when he went to use the bathroom. The pediatric area of the hospital was nice; they have a playroom and lots of games & toys that you can bring back to your room to play with (which we had to do because as a respiratory patient Noah was on "isolation status" for the first day and a half). We played Battleship, Scrabble, and Legos. It was actually a really fun (albeit a little expensive) bonding time for Noah and I. I slept in his bed next to him and I was reminded that just like when he was a baby, he's still a cuddler. It made me realize that I need to make more of an effort to schedule some one-on-one time with each of my kids... but next time we won't do it at the hospital.

Hubs stepped up to take care of things at home, also my mom & sister ~ thanks guys! It's great having family near by. I also had so many phonecalls, emails, etc. from friends offering to help and I really appreciate them!

So, we have some lingering coughs around here but all in all, things are good.

Stephanie just told me about Noah last night when I was checking in with her from Payson...what a scary experience. I am SO glad he is home now, we don't need anyone else from our family in the hospital. It's so adorable how Noah reacted to all of his new experiences and I'm sure that made it a little easier on your family too :)

Oh my goodness...I had no idea this happened. Glad he is feeling better. I would be freaking out if my kid got emitted to the hospital, but you seem so calm and collective. You are such a great mom!

I was waiting for this post. I love his "sick" face. So silly. I thought it was so cute how he & Tyson talked for SO long on the phone. Tyson got off the phone thinking that being in the hospital is just about the coolest thing ever!

SO glad he's doing okay now and he thought he hospital was so much fun. Gabe totally freaks at the mention of hospitals--when he had to have his head stapled he panicked until we convinced him the ER was different from the surgery where they put him to sleep.

Crazy stuff. Do they think it was influenza or pneumonia related?

Well, we've certainly got the ER & Urgent Care down to a science around here, but never been admitted or done the breathing treatments! I'm glad he was a good patient...that always helps! And so happy he's home & doing better. Fair warning that injury/illnesses come in threes! We've been through three now (stitches, collarbone, leg), so I'm praying we're done for awhile...

My boys asthma only presents when they have a cold or virus. The rest of the time they are fine. Glad to hear all is better now.

Since you're such a faithful blogger, I was worries something was up when we hadn't heard from you in a week. Glad to know things are getting better and that Noah had fun in the process.

BTW, I have also never been admitted to the hospital since the day I was born, and I've got quite a few years on Noah...

Wowza!!! Glad things are looking up! Scary when the little ones are sick like that. I remember Steve being moved to tears when he came to the hospital to see Lindsay on a backboard with tubes and monitors in the ER.

Keep getting better Noah!

Poor Noah, we are so glad he is home and getting better. He is such a funny boy, looks pretty happy for all that time at the hospital. His xray is pretty cool. Mo has asthma and the cough and weird breathing comes when he has a cold and when it's windy.
Let us know what you have found on your wheat grass, Em was telling me about it.
