Remember how we earned those
free Disneyland tickets back in February? Well we used them! I tell ya, going to Disneyland on a late-April Thursday is a great idea. The kids missed two days of school but it was worth it! The last time we went to Disneyland was during fall break, 3 1/2 years ago. At the time I thought THAT was the best time to go; the weather was great and the crowds were light. But this trip, the crowds were even lighter. We waited in a couple of 20-30 minute lines for the bigger rides, but many rides had a 0-5 minute wait. We even went on our favorite rides multiple times. Despite the girls' terror during Splash Mountain, they all ended up LOVING Space Mountain! So, we went on Space Mountain three times. Counting up all the multiple times on rides (and single times on rides too of course) we went on a grand total of 35 rides in 12 hours... of course breaking for lunch and dinner. Whew!

(This picture was from our 3rd and final ride on Space Mountain, so Aaron anticipated the camera flash.)
We stayed in San Diego for the weekend, and after our marathon 12-hour (9am-9pm) day at Disneyland on Thursday, we were happy to sleep in and veg at the beach on Friday.

My kids can play in the sand for hours on end, and there's not much I enjoy more than sitting on a beach with a good book. So, Friday was a great day!

On Saturday morning we went to Old Town San Diego, including the
Mormon Battalion Historic Site. I went there in my teen years but they have definitely updated the tour; it was very interesting, fun for the kids, and well worth the 45 minutes that it took. (I just read online that it was recently re-done and just opened this past January... you should go there next time you're in San Diego!)

Saturday afternoon we split up; Molly & Lucy and I went to the beach again while Aaron took Noah & Zoe to the tide pools.

This morning (Sunday) I stayed behind to clean up the condo and do the laundry while Aaron took the kids to church; guess who was there at church with them... Mitt Romney! So, Aaron & the kids got to shake his hand. Fun.
The trip seemed to go by too fast, but of course it was a lot of fun. I hope Disneyland does another service promotion again sometime; we'll be all over it!

Looks fun! And, the weather looked good- it snowed here AGAIN last night. Ugh.
Love slow days at Disneyland. We're all about the marathon days--when we went we were there before opening and left at midnight. Hooray for Mitt! I'll bet you were sad you missed him.
Sounds like the perfect little trip! Oooh, how I wish the give-a-day-get-a-day wasn't over. Oh well. We will make it to Disneyland sometime. You were so quick to put up a nice lengthy post. And answering a BUNCH of emails. Impressive! :)
Wow! What a great day at Disney and the beach looks so relaxing and fun. We will add the Mormon Battalion Site to our growing list of trips when we return to the "land". We love you all.
Fun trip!!! You guys have the best family!
Too fun! There is nothing better than Disneyland on a slow day. I am impressed that your AZ kids could suffer the beach in April--it's still way too cold up here and, from what I remember, San Diego stays chilly through spring as well.
Sounds like fun. We missed it by days. We literally looked up for opportunities and two days later it closed (before we could fulfill anything). Drat!
Oh how i long for the days at the beach when i can sit and read a book without chasing kids.
