I married such a great guy. Seriously.
So two years ago, Santa brought us a cut-rate swingset. It has been the perfect size for our yard, a lot of fun for the kids, but it has started to age too fast lately. As it turns out, the Arizona sun is not very forgiving on cheap wood swingsets. (We told the kids that 2005 must've been a bad year for wood at the north pole.)
Yesterday I took careful inspection of the bowed (once straight) beams, the cracks around the bolts, the major amount of swaying to-and-fro as the kids swing on the swings... and I made a declaration that it is nearing the point of becoming unsafe.
So, today Hubs took it upon himself to start rebuilding the swingset with new, better lumber. Today he has done the monkey bars / swings portion; over the next couple of Saturdays he'll do the "tower" part. You can see in the picture the difference between the old wood and the new wood. He bought nice strong redwood and treated it with something that's supposed to make it last longer, plus the new boards are bigger & shouldn't bend the way the old ones did.
One of Hubs' best qualities is that of being a hard worker. He's such a good example of it. Here it is, 11pm on Saturday night when he has a 6am meeting in the morning, and he's still out there in the cold with his Coleman lantern and his headlamp, finishing what he started on earlier today. He's also a good example of finishing every job he starts, and doing the job right.
And he's a super good dad for rebuilding the kids' swingset.
And he's a super good Hubs for starting on it today when he could see I was concerned about it falling apart, even though it probably would've lasted several more months.
Love you Hubs.
And now I think I'll go make you some hot chocolate.

I love his choice of ladder, it is so what we would have used at our house. What a great guy, great husbnd and great father.
Wow he is a keeper. I am impressed. I would have been inside the second it seemed to cold. I can't wait to see the finished product.
I was going to comment on AP's choice of ladder also! I used that same type of ladder to pick the lemons for you on Friday.
Glad that your swingset will be all ship shape so that we don't read a blog post about your trip to the ER! :)
Wow, can he come teach Ryan how to finish jobs. We still are not done with our floors completely. Awesome job Aaron. I would have just gone out and bought a new one. Way to go the extra mile! :)
This is why we do not have a swingset--Dan would repair it (although I'd have to buy him a headlamp), but it wouldn't last a year in our extreme winters and dry summers. Way to go Aaron! (Sara, did you have extra hot cocoa while he was finishing?)
