What's up with that saying anyway? Did somebody actually have to invent sliced bread, or wasn't it obvious the first time someone baked a loaf?
I love the internet. Hubs loves it because it has been the indirect source of our livelihood, lo these past 8 years or so. I love it for the online banking, the blogging, but mostly I love it for the shopping.
This post of my sister's got me to thinking about how much I enjoy shopping online, more than "real" shopping, while this post got me thinking about how much I depend on the internet & computer, so much more than even five years ago.
While I am not an internet shopping addict (although I could very easily become one!), I have made some interesting online purchases over the past week or two:
- A birthday present for Hubs (which I can't reveal since he does read this blog on occasion)
- Binoculars (shh - also a present for someone)
- Shirts at awesome clearance prices here (I'm talkin' $3-5 per shirt!)
- Vacuum bags here (good prices! - my vacuum's bags aren't easy to find [by which I mean they don't carry them at Target])

- Ants. Yup, 24 living, crawling ants are en route to our home as we speak (for Noah's ant farm). I am very curious to see what kind of package they're in!
And if you prefer to make money rather than always spend it, here are some things we've sold on Ebay over the years:
- New-with-tags baby clothes that I couldn't return (don't worry, nothing that any of you gave me!)
- Water softener
- Strut bars (that's a car part)
- Miscellaneous computer parts: RAM, motherboards, processors, monitors, etc.
- Pickles the Dog, a ceramic Beatrix Potter figurine. He fetched over $200!
However, I have no contingency plan for when disaster strikes and I have
Update: The ants arrived this afternoon! 24 ants in one very small vial, and they were all alive. After only about 20 minutes in their new home, they started tunneling. I'm completely fascinated... I'll post pictures when they have a whole tunnel system built!

Re: How will you survive without the internet.
In the future it will be uploaded on your brain, that way when disaster strikes you will just use your mental powers to shop online.
You can totally quote me on that prediction.
Speaking of online shopping...
You know how they're having that huge baby & kids sale at Old Navy right now? Well... Gymboree is also having a massive baby sale (just newborn and baby, not the "kid" section). I'm talkin' massive. For example, the fancy new Easter dresses that are normally priced at $42.50 are on sale for $20! Plus I have a coupon for an additional 20% off. That's a fancy shmancy Easter dress for $16. I'm thinkin' I should just buy some to sell on eBay.
Needless to say, I've made several online purchases in the past few days from Old Navy & Gymboree. Plus I've actually been to both stores twice each this week. I'm a sucker for a good sale and super cute baby girl clothes. I think I've got Paige all set for 6-12 months.
p.s. I'm so grateful that Al Gore invented the Internet. ;)
You got a comment from CJane!? I didn't know that she read your blog. You really are totally famous, Sara!!
I just wanted to say that you really do seem to have the food storage thing under control. How nice that I live within walking distance of you now. When disaster strikes...we are comin' to your house. And you know tricky AP will figure out a way to rig getting the internet, even during disaster.
I'm pretty sure cjane doesn't normally read my blog; but I read hers all the time and I guess I've left enough comments for her to venture on over here. I know, I just couldn't believe it when I saw that she posted the first comment on this one this morning... the blogger of all bloggers! :)
I am totally going to check out that Gymboree sale!! And I heard there's a new one by you Kate? And Jame, you got your gmail working I see?
I can't believe you bought ants on the internet...only you! Gymobree also has little boys underwear on sale! That is a new fun thing of mine now that Gabe can actually wear them. They have the BEST ones.
THANKS FOR THE BINOCULARS!!
WHAT A NICE SURPRISE...I'LL USE THEM TONIGHT AS WE TAKE ON THE MIGHTY CELTICS!
You can live without the internet.
I did it for several months when Dan was too cheap to install DSL and tired to use our neighbors wireless for free (until they all caught on).
Of course, that was before I checked blogs nearly daily. I'd really miss all my friends.
Kate--ease up on the girl dress shopping bragging. I'm so dying to buy dresses!!!
cool ants. Do you think if I just used the ones crawling around my kitchen they'd work? (I've finally given up in my war against them. We're friends now.)
By the way, I meant to say that our ants came in a little tube. I couldn't believe they fit 24 ants in such a tiny thing. Be careful... they are FAST! It takes a lot of care to get them all in the ant farm without one escaping!
