wow. i'm totally impressed.
Looks wonderful! Impressive!
Congrats - looks great!!!! With all the food storage and canning I've done, I can honestly say I've never done any fruit. I've always wanted to, but you're now the third person who has done it and said it makes a mess and is not cost effective (two things that would drive me crazy). So I'll probably skip it.
My mom does this all the time, only she uses her homegrown apples that take forever to cut up.
Maybe if I got a handy peeler, slicer, dicer, I'd give it a whirl.
Good job.
If I had my own (free) apple supply, I would do this all the time. And yes I have one of those peeler/slicer/corers... I can't imagine doing it without that. The mess isn't really much worse than any other fruit canning; it's just taking longer than I thought and yielding less than I thought. When all the apples are finished (still working on them - since Monday) I'll figure out the cost of each quart... in dollars, not factoring in time. My mom and I worked on them together on Monday; it's always more fun having someone to work with!
Go Sara, that is awesome. Where did you get your apples? I think I will stick with the store bought, you can get them unsweetened, but way to go!
Good skill to have - totally yum! Glad you did no sugar - ours turned out twoo sweet and we used WAY less than it called for. I buy no sugar, why would make it with sugar? I dunno.
Just one more thing I can say that you can do and I can't. That's very impressive!
Woohoo. Yay Sara!
I grant you the title of Domstic Goddess Extraordinaire. I did applesauce with my sisters, and I think you deserve a medal.
