The makers of the OTHER two gingerbread houses aren't allowed to vote. But for the REST of you... which do you like the best? You won't hurt my feelings; I promise. (And your vote will have no impact on your chances of winning this year's Happy Life Giveaway [which is going to be toffee, by the way] because that winner will be selected completely at random.)
This is, I think, the 3rd year we've done gingerbread houses and this is the 1st year that we added colored royal icing to the palette. In the past we'd only used white, with lots more candy. It was super fun; thanks Mom!

In other news, Noah was in his school spelling bee this week. I was surprised how quickly the whole thing lasted; only 40 minutes from start to finish! They started with 30 kids (top 2 spellers from each class, grades 3-6) and about 8-9 kids were eliminated in the first round and about that many in the 2nd round too. Noah got out in the 2nd round by incorrectly spelling BEQUEATH. What 8-yr-old would know that word? (Incidentally, his correctly spelled 1st round word was spectrum.)
I was sure proud watching him; he did great and it was a good experience. The day before he told me he was a little nervous about being up there in front of ALL of the 3-6 graders, but he didn't seem nervous on stage and he was very casual about it; didn't seem to mind much when he was eliminated either.
You know, being a parent is pretty great.
Now - please vote for your favorite gingerbread house! (I'm copying my friend Leigh who recently had us vote on her family's too.)

OK, I can't vote. They all look great. We are doing ours tomorrow for FHE. Which kit did you use? (Or did you make them??? Crazy.) Last year we got the costco kit, this year I got one at michael's.
They're all so cute! I think my favorite is the one on the right, because of the lattice pattern on the roof.
:D
All are very impressive, it's between the middle one and the one on the right (when looking at the picture). I've got to go with the middle one, since it has a fence and everything.
Okay - first - ALL of yours are better than ours. We should have had the round bottom things.
Second - I don't know if I can pick a winner because they're all so great. I LOVE the roof of the one on the left, I LOVE the fence of the one in the middle, and I LOVE the arched door rooflet (how do you like that new word?) of the one on the right. Sorry - you all did great.
Third - colored frosting - excellent idea.
Sorry that you can't see more of the 1st house; like the sides of it... it has very adorable windows on the sides and also you might not be able to see the roof very well from this angle. I realized later that the picture I chose was good for lighting and less background clutter, and not as good for seeing ALL of ALL the houses!
Meredith these are the Wilton kits; they have them at Michaels. We definitely don't MAKE them but my mom does make a bunch of gingerbread men for the kids to decorate while the mommas work on the houses. Also she bought the cardboard cake rounds and it makes it much easier than using the small cardboard that the kit comes with. Also - we make a TON more royal icing than what the kit comes with, especially since we use so much for the "yard" on the rounds.
Mine is the middle. I love the Necco shingles, and it looks like it has the most candy.
They are darling.
Far right is my fave I dig the perpermint roofing tiles. All of them are very impressive ! I wouldn't mind calling any of them home for me and my diabetic coma!
I like the red & white roof, and the warm & glowy yellow interior (shining through the windows) of the one on the far right, but they all look great.
I like something in all 3 but my favorite one is the middle one. I like the fence and the roof. Great job!
I love them all! Much better than any gingerbread house I have ever created. I do really love that roof on the far right though, so I would have to go with that one.
Those are all so cute! One of my kids was asking just yesterday if we could do a gingerbread house. My favorite is the first one. I really like the holly and candles on the front! You did a great job! I like the idea of gingerbread men for the kids to decorate.
I'm going to have to go with the majority of voters and go with the one on the right! They all look great, though.
And way to go Noah! He is such a smarty pants! I hope my kids are that smart when they get bigger. But I'll probably still love them anyway if they aren't!
I like the middle one the best - although all look fantastic and much better than I have done. Is this a tradition for you all?
Well, I like the one on the left the most. Is that grass in the front? How clever!
Megan and I both vote for the middle one, but we love them all. So cute!
