My proposed silver lining: it takes bangs far less time to grow out to "normal" length than other parts of the hair.
Yeah, I read your comment on Mrs. Dub and figured it would be something that could be covered up by a trim. Alas. Speaking of Mrs. Dub, she once had a bang-cutting disaster in the 6th grade (my mom's fault, actually, who didn't realize Mrs. Dub had grown taller than her and that she was cutting at an upwards angle), which was covered up by wearing a wide, knit headband every day for about a month or two.
Hmmm...well, at least you didn't have triplets who gave themselves haircuts. Oh, and at least your children are so cute that they still look cute sans bangs. Not every child could pull it off so well.
Oh no! Here is the silver lining...just think that I would have handled it SO MUCH WORSE than you probably did. You are such a great mom! It'll grow fast...and now she'll have a really funny story to tell.
As Ginny explained - I've been there at a much older, awkward age. Just figure that every kid her age is going to sport a self-butchered 'do at some point this year. Work towards pixie bangs and call it a new trend!
When I was 4 I cut off my bangs right before christmas too - just in time for pictures.
Were you still around hen Paige cut off Lindsay's hair? The silver lining...you will be laughing about it forever...but not for several months.
I say go all out and cut it pixie short - my friend had to do that when her son cut off one of her daughter's pigtails - to the scalp - and they were high pigtails that day.
I went out and bought some knit headbands today...
Yes Meredith I completely remember the Lindsay/Paige fiasco! Lucy's hair was in a ponytail and since she was the scissors wielder, her long hair was completely spared. (She cut Zoe's hair too but completely at random and not as noticeable; although Zoe will need a bob now.) So we're not going to do pixie with her; just try to get by with nice wide headbands for a while. A LONG while.
Silver lining--she went after herself with scissors. NOT her father's sideburn trimmer. Therefore, she's not sporting a 1X2 inch BALD SPOT in the middle of her head. My silver lining was that Gabe is a boy. He just looked like a cancer patient for a month.
Cute Lucy!!! I'm not showing Gabby this picture so she doesn't get any ideas.... We are trying to practice the song for choir, I think it's coming alright.
oh my! that is pretty bad. at least she can do headbands. i think the silver lining is . . . i don't know - i'm having a hard time coming up with one. sorry.
At least she didn't do it the night before school pictures or right before your family Christmas pictures. Does that even count as a silver lining? Every single one of my kids has cut their own hair - usually the week before a scheduled professional photo shoot - except Megan (and Evelyn, obviously) because I stopped letting them use scissors - ever - and keep every pair in the house very well hidden.
One time when I was a kindergarten mom helper, the teacher started complaining about moms who don't let their kids use scissors and how it makes her job so much harder to have to teach them....on and on and on about those horrible parents who don't let their kids cut up everything in sight so they have good cutting skills. I just kept quiet while smiling and nodding since I AM one of those parents. I'm pretty sure my kids will figure out how to use scissors without my sacrificing the furniture, clothes, books, and hair they would be cutting at home.
The silver lining is...nope, I got nothing, sorry! Hope you've already taken your Christmas photos...
But at least you've got good bribery material when she's a teenager, right?
When Brandon started at Chris Packer's, she asked me, "He's never used glue, scissors, markers (fill in the blank...anything else messy or dangerous) has he?" Nope - I'm a mean mom with all her stuff locked up!
I know Natalie (or her brothers) will likely cut her hair at some point. I hope I can handle it as well as you!
oh my goodness!! Your hubby told me about this last night, but I never pictured it this bad!!
hmmm the silver lining I am not sure of. Maybe if we look on the brightside...like we are so lucky head bands are in!! Or pixie hair cuts are super trendy right now too!!
Since you asked for the Silver lining, here is one. Your daughter obviously has good use of scissor skills. While she may not have demonstrated it in a way that was preferred by you, she seems to be developmentally on target (you would be surprised by how many moms I know that are delighted that their kids (who were developmentally delayed) started saying "naughty words" in school or got busted by a teacher for teasing another child (recognizing not appropriate but devolopmentally appropriate). First time one of my kids said a 4 letter word (poop) I was excited (of course not to their face).
Oh my! Jake and I just saw this post for the first time and we lost it! I had to hold my hand over my incision to control the pain while laughing. Sorry.

Awwww. That's just not going to be easy to work with. But yes, she is SUPER cute!
The silver lining is that my kids saw the pictures and are now even more scared of using scissors!
oh no! she has a great smile. :)
