Four thousand one hundred sixty five pages

... in the past three months or so.
Whew!

I recommend my method of NOT getting into a book series, TV series, etc. until AFTER the height of its popularity. This has served me well, several times. Being able to read the next book immediately, without having to wait a year or two for it to come out, was just lovely. And boy, the 6th Harry Potter book ended with so much unanswered; really a cliff-hanger; I don't know how people waited so long for the 7th!

This series was better than I expected. I kind of assumed that the popularity was more based on hype than good writing, so I was pleasantly surprised at the writing. It was pretty easy reading but not juvenile, and the story is very well-organized. I've always enjoyed books along sci-fi/fantasy lines, and if you don't mind learning a little wizard-speak then I would recommend these books! Now, I just need to watch all the movies. The first one's pretty good; I was disappointed in the 2nd one... but of course books are always better aren't they. My goal is to rent/borrow the rest of the movies while #6 is still in theaters, and then see #6 in the theater... then wait for the two movies they're making for #7. Good stuff.

P.S. I am so annoyed that I bought the first book at a different store than the rest of them and that it doesn't match. Would that bug you too? It's very irritating to me, looking at that stack...

I am reading them right now too, and I am half way through with 5. I might have to borrow 7 from you. Also, my mom owns the movies up through 5 and I have them in my possession, so you are welcome to borrow them anytime.

My very first thought when I saw this post was, "Oh man! What a bust that the first book isn't the same size as the others!"
I didn't know you bought them all. I might have to borrow them too. I think I read 1 & 2 way back when they were the only ones.

I felt the same about Harry Potter...that it couldn't possibly be as good as everyone said it was. That was until I read them! But then I was glad I had waited until they were all out and I could read them one right after the other without waiting! I have seen all the movies (except the new one because I'm too cheap to see it in the "real" theatre) - I definitely don't think they're as good as the books.

Different books would drive me INSANE. I'm OCD like that.

I the first four back when we first moved to Sunnyvale and Dan was always working. Loved them, but had to wait for all the rest.

Am now halfway through the second book with the big boys, they love it and can't wait until we finish so they can watch the second movie.

I'm so glad you all noticed the difference in book sizes. I'm thisclose to going out & buying a new #1 book and giving away the small one...

I bought them all because after reading the first few of them and seeing how good they were, I figured that eventually my kids will read them all, and I'll probably read them all again myself in a few years. My kids love the story but the books do get progressively more scary, so I'm making them wait a while. We read the first one together in June and Z & L had nightmares about Voldemort. So Noah just finished reading the 2nd one, and I'm making him wait a little while before the 3rd & beyond.
