I am SO excited about this. My mom has since upgraded and she generously passed her "old" (only about 8 years old) Bernina down to me. Oh, the possibilities! The kids & I spent the first afternoon just playing with stitch patterns (do you see that adorable owl in a tree?) and this is my first experience with a machine that tells you when your bobbin is running low. Hi-tech!
I am thinking about this for my first project on the new machine; is that cute or what? I love the idea of Halloween buckets that are not made of hard plastic and therefore don't take up so much room in storage when Halloween is over. I may even machine-embroider my kids' names on them.
Jo-Ann's here I come!

I just got an email yesterday that a lady in our ward will be teaching a class how to make those pumpkin bags (unfortunately during fall break)! They are super cute.
I'm excited for you! Mom makes such awesome things...and now you can too! I can't wait to see your creations. I might start putting in some requests when you get going with it!
I am jealous! Those bags are really cute. Here is another cute pattern for pumpkins. http://thoughtsandcraftsbyholly.blogspot.com/. (You have to scroll down a little to get to the tutorial). I wanted to make them last year, but I never got the time to go pick out fabric. They look super easy though.
I am going to JoAnn's today. I have to make a MUMMY costume this year. Shouldn't be too hard, right? I'll have to search for a tutorial online.
I love Stephanie's pumpkin bags too... but then I saw some cute cloth bags (so much easier to store) at Sam's Club for like $6 each. I also some cute ones at Target. I just don't know if you could buy all of the materials for that cheap. But I know... it would be much more special to have a homemade bag.
I'm glad you are helping Mom with her dream of having a daughter who sews. :)
Soo jealous! Have fun!
Yesterday I showed my kids a picture of Stephanie's pumpkins and they all want one; plus I really want to sew something so I'm going to go for it! Noah wants one too but with a "scary face." I'm going to get different orange fabric for each one; I'm looking forward to it! I'll post pictures when I'm done (if they turn out cute, that is!)
That would be so fun to have!
Hooray! Once you go Bernina, you don't go back. I also have a hand-me-down Bernina from my mom, probably about 10 years old, and it works like a charm despite the fact that I never get it maintenanced. And my sister Amy has a hand-me-down Bernina from me on which she churns out all sorts of cute things. Good luck with the Pumpkins; can't wait to see them!
I bought my soft pumpkin bags at Ikea. I even thought ahead and bought a couple extra for an upcoming kid. (that was Kate.) Maybe I could have YOU hook my up with names embroidered on them in exchange for something other than peach pies!
