This was my first year doing pears; I think they will look so nice on the shelf in my closet next to the homemade applesauce and canned peaches. Because it's all about aesthetics, you know. And yes, I keep all of my home-canned goods in my master bedroom closet.
Next up: peaches!

Most days the food storage in my closet makes me happier than my clothes!
Those look so good. Yum yum yum.
I keep my entire food storage in my bedroom closet... For whatever reason, my closet is actually bigger than my kitchen.
Sara...those look so good! That is my goal next year, but I've only done peaches before. I may have to call you when I get serious about learning how to do all that canning stuff :)
All I have to say is I want a closet I can fit canned goods in. Maybe if I organized better?
Pears are my favorite but they are so much work with the peeling...
These were jumbo pears and really the peeling went much faster than I anticipated. It didn't take very much longer than peaches... peach skins slip off easily but there's the time to blanch them. I had the pear skins off in just a few swipes of a big potato peeler and they were ripe enough that it came off easily. And beyond the peeling, the procedure is identical to peaches so I will do pears again next year!
Today I'm getting four boxes of peaches so I'll be up to my elbows in peaches for a few days...
There were so many comments about closet food storage. Funny that I have never even thought of putting it in my closet. Of course, I don't have much to store. Your closet is pretty unique, Sare, with how big it is. You should measure it and tell us. Make a whole blog post about your "Norstrom's."
I can already tell you, it's 20 feet by 6 feet... we measured it before we moved into the house, so fascinated by its size we were. Maybe someday when I clean it out & organize it, I'll take a picture, complete with 5-yr-old standing at the very end for scale :)
We love your fruit. I think keeping it in your bedroom is great - just don't forget to have a spoon and bowl in there too!
