Reducin'

Fact: I lost 12.2 pounds last fall.

Fact: My diet ended with the commencement of Halloween candy feasting, and my feasting continued through the holidays.

Fact: MLK Day, Valentine's Day, and Presidents Day are considered part of "the holidays."

Fact: Factoring in my recent loss of a couple pounds from being sick, my net gain since the end of my diet has been about 6.5 pounds. So, I'm not too far off track right?

Fact: I am one of those people who cares about her weight, i.e., I weigh myself at least a few times a week even though the experts say not to.

So, this all boils down to the fact that I'm back to reducin'. That's my great-grandma's term for dieting, and I prefer it. So far I don't plan on counting points strictly, since that's kind of a pain (I do still believe in WW but am going to try my own way this time), but I do plan on implementing the following near-daily regimen, which will keep me under 20 points:

  • One big bowl of oatmeal at 10:30-11ish every day, with just a little honey on it. This is very filling and very nutritious! (and yummy too)

  • Some fruit and/or vegetables while the kids are eating lunch.

  • Dinner: normal food but modest portions.

  • Dessert: minimal if any, and consumed early in the evening.

  • Lots of water throughout the day, and a "One-a-Day Weight Smart" vitamin every morning.

  • Exercise: maybe.

Sounds like a plan! I'll keep you posted on my progress...

Last February we bought a real scale, not the cheap spring-loaded one we'd had forever, which I could twist a little back and lose 5 lbs easy.

The new one is digital (and of course was on clearance at Costco). Once I tried it, I could no longer rationalize that my boobs were the reason for my weight.

So, I quit eating ice cream every night (a HUGE sacrifice) and started riding the exercise bike for 30 minutes almost 6 days a week. By Thanksgiving I had lost 16 pounds, and by the time I got the flu in early December, I'd lost 19!

Then I got knocked up. I fell off the exercise wagon and began eating all the egg salad sandwiches and english muffins dripping with butter (and of course ice cream) that this baby demanded. My doctor is a bit surprised at how quickly my weight has gone up, but I figure it's just in a hurry to get back because it missed me so much.

The good news is since the baby is due the end of August, I can hide under sweaters until I get enough energy and motivation to get reducing again myself.

Best of luck to you--I'll eat all you don't. :) Also, I now love the fat free coffee creamer in my oatmeal. French vanilla is my fav!

Sorry for writing a dissertation.

I am pretty sure that "The Holidays" run year round for me. After Valentine's and President's day, you've got St. Patrick's, Easter, then April Fool's Day, Passover, Mother's Day... There is always an excuse for me to eat more.

Good luck on reducin' again. I'm sure you will lose a few pounds in no time. And love the reducin' shout out to "Ma."

I'm trying to "reduce" also. We are headed to the Dominican Republic April 1st, and I want to look GOOD! It's not coming off real fast. I'm attempting a version of the Special K diet. Not so strict, just eating more healthily. We also got a treadmil, so now I can work out too.

I couldn't ever stick to a schedule like that! I need variety in my morning & lunch meals. Plus, I don't love oatmeal. But if this works for you, go for it.
I have however become fond of my current lunch choice... a 98% fat-free whole wheat tortilla with deli sliced turkey breast, lettuce, and whatever low-fat salad dressing drizzled over it, then rolled up. Really good and only 4 WW points!
Cutting out the desserts has made all of the difference for me. I'm down 7.4 pounds now in 3 weeks. I'm just about to my pre-preg weight, BUT my hips and thighs are still not the right size.... annoying. Oh well.

Hooray Kate on the 7.4 lbs!! That's so great. I know, the proportions never go back to the way they should be. I discovered yesterday that I only weigh like 3 lbs more than I did a year ago before we went to Hawaii, but I was much skinnier then... I'd been exercising a lot before that trip so I had more muscle, and now it's all turned back into fat. Lovely, just lovely.

I will give my eating schedule a little variety but I really do enjoy the oatmeal lately so I figure I might as well keep it up as long as I can! Plus it really is more filling (to me) than cold cereal.

Your lunch wrap sounds mighty tasty!

Oh and one more thing, I just bought strawberries at the store... they're coming back into season and they are the best diet food EVER!! So my lunch today will be sugar snap peas, carrots, and strawberries. And maybe a Special K snack bar; those things are delish.

Ah, so timely...Luke just weaned, and I meant to start WW on Monday. So, this post and comments are good motivation.

I'm also surprised at how brazen I've gotten in my old age. If I see someone who has lost weight, I ask them how they did it. I keep hoping someone will say something like 10 extra minutes on the treadmill or 2 cookies instead of 3 helped them drop 20 pounds. But no, it's always something way to hard...like WW for 3 months or 90 minute workout sessions. Sigh...

The girls and I are also "reducen" (LOVE that term)((I may steal it!)) Anyway, It's about the dumbest thing we have to worry about along with everything else, but what can you do!? I want to be able to do fun stuff and I love clothes AND I don't want to have to go to LB to get them!!!! We are joining this group of gals and we each put in $100. The winner (I mean Losser) gets 50%, 2nd place 30% and so on. We need the motivation. Good Luck and We can All think THIN thoughts together!!!!
