Let me eat cake

I survived my little event today which has had me all stressed out and nervous over the past few weeks; singing a solo in stake conference (translation: I sang in front of a really big group. Like, hundreds and hundreds of people; maybe a thousand). Whew! I'm glad it's over; I think I did the best I could, I felt pretty calm & collected when the moment of truth arrived, which I know was due to lots practicing but mostly due to lots of praying.

I felt pretty in my Easter dress (floral skirt & top from Old Navy), the new earrings I just got in the mail yesterday from my good friend Leigh, and the fresh haircut I got on Friday from Rachel. Nothing like a few little details to boost your confidence, you know?

Plus, I was able to start today off knowing that I had done everything I could ahead of time. On Saturday I ironed everyone's church clothes, the children all took showers, and I spent quite a bit of time assembling a "church binder" for each child. Each contained word searches, mazes, coloring pages, etc. plus pencils, colored pencils, stickers, and a package of Smarties. Two hours, which ended up being closer to 3 since we got there really eary to get good seats, is a long time to be contained to a church pew and I wanted to make sure they were well occupied with quiet activities.

So the meeting was good, the choir was lovely, my solo was fine, and when we got home I treated myself to a little nap (I can't remember the last time I took a Sunday nap!) while Hubs fixed lunch for the kids, and then when I woke up I decided to start working on a delicious dinner and dessert to celebrate the end of this stressful few weeks. Chicken marsala (without actual marsala) with mushrooms, homemade rolls, corn, and super yummy fancy from-scratch strawberry shortcake for dessert; recipe freshly posted here.

(Luckily for me there's plenty left over; I know what I'm having for breakfast in the morning...)

Congrats on the solo - I'm sure it sounded great. You're much braver than I am! Did every stake have stake conference yesterday? Yours is the third one I know of...

That strawberry shortcake looks delicious!

Sara you did awesome!!!! I meant write a comment yesterday on your facebook but forgot. At first I thought I missed it because we didn't get to see the first 20 min. of conference do to technical difficulties at our ward building but so happy that I was childless for the closing song. You sounded so beautiful and just perfect! Oh and when the choir sang the number in the middle, around 10:30 they had the camera on you the entire time!! :) I thought I would share that with you.

Nothing like a new haircut and earrings and outfit to make a solo easier! Because what's always most important is how good you look. :) I'm sure you were wonderful, and I'm drooling over the shortcake.

Great job Sara, you and your family looked great! I only got to hear a few talks and a couple songs from the choir. But Pete told me you did great and it sounded super good. That dinner menu sounds so good right now, specially the dessert. You totally deserve that nap!
