Utah Trip: Provo

We took a trip to Utah last week! It was a nice drive, with lots of rain both ways, and Lucy kept finding rainbows for us to see.
The ipod generation... thanks to mp3s and dvds our kids were content for the 11-hour drive. We stayed at Jake & Tiffany's house; they are always such good hosts and when we got there at 1am last Tuesday night they had all of our beds set up and ready for immediate use. Thanks you guys!

We spent our first day in Provo. Aaron & I thought it would be fun to walk around BYU campus, both of us being former BYU students. We thought the kids might be bored but they had just as much fun as we did! Unfortunately I left my camera in the car... but we ate lunch at the Cougareat, had Creamery ice cream, walked through the BYU bookstore, went to the top of the Kimball Tower, did all the fun experiments at the Eyring Science building, walked across that white bridge that goes near the bell tower, visited the library (quietly!), and took a walk through the Tanner building where Aaron had all of his business classes and spent a LOT of time those last couple of years. It was really fun to reminisce.

The rest of our "Provo Tour" included visiting the place Aaron & I met, the place Aaron & I lived for the first 2 1/2 years of our marriage, and of course the place where I got in a wreck and totaled our little Honda Civic. The wreck was 100% NOT my fault; someone ran a stop sign and broadsided me on my way to work, and my car did a 180 and left a permanent impression on this light pole, on 900 East at 150 North. The date of the accident was September 13, 1999... I have a strange memory for dates like that :)

Next we headed to Rock Canyon. It was a very warm 10-minute hike to our destination, but we found a nice shady place to do some "real" rock climbing. The kids have all climbed at the rec center, never on actual rock; and they were all excited to try!

And... hello, as if she needs any introduction, Rockclimbing Extraordinaire, Molly!

You can see in this close-up that she made it all the way up to where Aaron had the rope secured to some chains. And, you'll see that she's barefoot... we'd forgotten her tennis shoes and she was worried about not being able to climb. But as soon as Aaron told her, "Some of the best climbers in the world go barefoot!" she was totally onboard and obviously did a terrific job.
We drove back north via the Alpine Loop, which goes through Sundance and is SUCH a pretty drive. A super fun first day in Utah.

We haven't taken our kids to Rock Canyon with climbing gear, but we should - you guys look like you had so much fun!

(And remember when you, me, and G took photos there pretending that we were rock climbing. We were so funny.)

You went back and visiting Monaco Court? How fun! I assume Villa Maria is still there...

Isn't it strange taking your kids on BYU campus? Made us feel REALLY old!

I thought of those rock canyon pictures, too, Leigh! Our outfits were so dated that they're already back in style. However, I'm super impressed with your kids' rock climbing prowess.

Seriously, Molly is like a super-hero! Looks like she's got a long career as a climber!
