Utah Trip: SLC

We spent last Thursday in Salt Lake City. It's so close to Aaron's parents' house, where we spend every other Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we hadn't been to Temple Square since the fall of 2004.

We started by taking a mini-tour of the Conference Center. That place is huge!! The kids were very excited to go on the roof; this was looking south across the street to the Salt Lake Temple.

You wouldn't think it to look at the aerial shot below, but all that greenery you see is actually on the ROOF of the Conference Center. It was pretty neat to walk around and see it all. Our tour guide told us that since the planters are fairly shallow, the larger trees' roots are secured with cables. And, he told us that the big "meadow" is covered with purple and yellow wildflowers in the spring.

What an amazing structure! As you can see from this picture it takes up the whole block.
I thought this wall (which is on the roof of the building) was neat; it's just black marble that has been etched with a water jet to create this photograph-like image. Looking up close you can see that the lighter areas are unpolished, similar to etched glass.

Then we went across the street to Temple Square. The north Visitor's Center has so many great displays; we could've spent much more time in there. I highly recommend going, with your kids. I only took one picture there, in the peaceful Christus room.

We took the Trax a few blocks west to the Clark Planetarium. There's no cost to go in and check out all the hands-on science/space displays; my kids loved it.

Walking on Mars!
The kids, especially Molly, LOVED this huge 20-ft tall marble run. She stood there and watched it for probably 45 minutes; totally intrigued. You can kind of tell from this picture that this is the second story; it extends down to the level below.

When we got back to Jake & Tiffany's that evening we had some yummy hamburgers for dinner and some fun playtime with their kids.
Cute & spunky Sloan!

All the girls loved the opportunity to hold Owen; what a sweet and happy baby he is.

Another great day!

The Christus room would have been peaceful for us...except my kids learned that it had a really cool echo!

We'll have to put the Clark Planetarium on our list for next time. It sounds fun and it's my favorite price...FREE! :)
