My camera got run over by a truck

And that's why I haven't posted anything new lately.

The real reason is that it's been a little busy around here, what with getting back into the school and piano lessons schedule, acclimating to life with a puppy, Noah starting soccer this week, Hubs' parents coming to town on Friday, Zoe and Lucy's birthday this Saturday, being behind on household chores, putting away Christmas decor, miscellaneous stuff associated with my church callings, and my washing machine breaking this morning!

All of the above pales in comparison to the loss of my washing machine, which quit on me mid-cycle on my first of 7 or 8 loads today. In true frontierswoman form, I siphoned the soapy water out of the machine (it won't drain or spin), rinsed the load of whites, wrung them out by hand... one by one... and put them in the dryer which thank goodness does still work! FYI, Costco's return policy used to be really lenient but it turns out that if you bought a washing machine from them 8 1/2 years ago and then it decides to stop working, they won't take it back. The nerve.

The crazy thing about my smashed camera is that it still takes pictures, but the screen's all broken and the zoom doesn't work... giving me very limited convenience but we have Hubs' nice camera too so we're fine for now.

So what's new with you?

We have too much in common...My washing machine quite spinning last summer (the drain pump went out)and I went to take some pictures at Christmas Eve, and found it in my purse, inside the case, smashed. But it still works. And the element went out in my oven Christmas Eve afternoon... I think I really have enough woes here for my own post...check my blog in a day or two.

We get so spoiled by our washer & dryer, don't we? My dryer had issues last spring (right after we signed a contract to sell it with the house, but 3 weeks before we actually turned it over...I was really ticked off). I asked the repair man how long they last. He said usually about 9-11 years, depending on the brand and how much it gets used. Ours was right at about 9 years. It almost makes me want to go and buy a new set at 9 years, just so it doesn't break right in the middle of a load!

Update: Hubs fixed my washing machine tonight... for NO cost! Took the whole thing apart and did some re-wiring and voila, it works and is being used right now! Last summer our fridge went out and he fixed it himself for about $50, a far cry from the $700 the repairman wanted to charge. So yeah I'll just brag about Hubs for a minute!

But... it was him who ran over my camera so I guess we're even...

Thankfully we haven't had nearly that much excitement around here. We came home from glorious sunny Arizona back to FREEZING, snowy Utah and wonder what we're doing here. I don't know what I'd do without a washer and dryer. It was hard enough when it was just Sjon and me and we had to use laundromats or go to his grandma's house in SLC for the weekend and bring our laundry with us (I'm sure she was so happy to see us every weekend), but I can't even imagine life with 5 kids and no washer and dryer. Yikes! I hope your life gets a little more boring soon! :)

Thank goodness it didn't go out when the kids had the pukies, like we've got over here.

So yeah, that's what we're doing.
