It's the thought that counts

Last Sunday the kids were challenged by a church leader to do anonymous good deeds for their mother. When I heard about this I was of course delighted. All week there have been whispers, secret meetings, hushed consultations with their dad, mysterious scurrying around, and huge sly grins cast in my direction.

Naturally, I have been expecting to find what I consider to be "the usual" anonymous good deeds like my bed being made, clean laundry folded and/or put away without me asking, or other miscellaneous household chores. I have tried to help by leaving my bed unmade longer than usual on some days, hinted about the laundry, the dishes, etc. Hey, just doing my part!

Well, my kids apparently have a very different idea of what constitutes anonymous good deeds. Not one anonymous household chore has been performed, but I have been finding very special pictures and treasures lying around, addressed to me, as well as a $1 bill with a note left on my pillow one night. But pictured below is my favorite treasure so far, and a good example of what I've been getting so far:

I don't know what that is...it looks like a cross between a smurf and a flying monkey from the Wizard of Oz. Your kids are too cute.

It is a flying monkey from the Wizard of Oz. What mother's heart wouldn't be warmed to find one of those lying shrine-like on her bed? I was glad that the "mystery" giver wasn't around when I found it because I laughed out loud!

You're not the only one who laughed out loud! That was so funny. Where did they even get a toy flying monkey for Wizard of OZ? That was so awesome.
